Extracurricular Policy
Coláiste Phádraig actively encourages all students to participate in extra-curricular activities to promote students’ holistic development in accordance with our Mission Statement.
Representing Coláiste Phádraig as part of a team or group or in an individual capacity should be considered an honour and students are expected to display commitment, pride and dedication to their chosen activity and their school.
Guidelines for Students
- The school subscribes to the principle that participation in extra-curricular activities is a privilege rather than a right.
- Full school rules apply at all time.
- A spirit of goodwill and sportsmanship is encouraged.
- Students are responsible for having appropriate gear/equipment.
- The utmost respect must be shown to the extra-curricular activities organisers and to the property of others when taking part in extra-curricular activities.
- Third and Sixth Year students can play for no more than 2 school teams.
- Students involved in representing the school at sporting events will sign a contract to say that they will catch up on any notes missed and will have all homework completed by the next lesson.
- Upon return to school after a match, students must attend all remaining classes for the remainder of the school day.
- Students playing for school teams must have 24 hour insurance cover.
- If a student is suspended from school, he cannot play for a school team.
- If a match is scheduled for a Friday and a student has been placed on long detention, the student must return to school to complete the long detention.
Guidelines for Teachers
- Dates and times for matches/events must be agreed with the Deputy Principal in advance and then placed on the noticeboard in the staffroom.
- Matches should not be organised before 11am on any given day.
- No more than one match/event (across all sports) should be organised for any given day.
- With the exception of new first year teams, no friendly matches can be organised during school time.
- Team lists must be provided to reception before each match/event.
- In so far as it is possible, teachers should only coach one school team.
- If students are meeting in the canteen before a match/event, they must be supervised and the time they are to leave class should be put up on ePortal. If it is necessary for students to change in the canteen, the blinds should be pulled down.
Injuries in School Matches
In the event that a sports injury such as concussion or a similarly serious injury happens while playing for a school team, a student must provide a doctor’s cert for fitness to return to sport before he can resume playing for a school team. If a student suffers a serious injury outside of school time, it is his Parents/Guardians responsibility to inform the school of the injury..
